Friday 27th March- Year 4, by Miss McEvoy

Date: 27th Mar 2020 @ 8:06am

Happy Friday Year 4 :)

We are both very proud of all the work you have been doing at home this week.

Finish the week off with a fantastic Joe Wicks work out. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAxW1XT0iEJo0TYlRfn6rYQ Then why not spend some time creating your own mini work out, we could try these out when we all get back to school.

Today’s learning pack activities:

Maths - The mystery of the missing horse challenge

English - Ancient Egyptian Dentists

Handwriting Practice - Year 3 & 4 National Curriculum words (1 page)

Don’t forget to record your work in your red exercise book.

This afternoon we would like you to think about this big question, this links to our last Science topic (states of matter)

Write your ideas in your red book and in the comments below. Ask somebody in your house as well and see what their ideas are.

Background science

Freezing is the term used to describe a liquid changing state into a solid when you cool it. It’s a reversible change, so if you apply heat to something frozen it will melt back into a liquid. Water usually freezes at 0°C, but its freezing point can drop below zero if it contains substances such as salt or alcohol. Seawater freezes at around -2°C, while antifreeze can stop the water in a car’s radiator from freezing even at -30°C!

Glacial ice (that is glaciers, ice caps, ice bergs and the sheets of ice that cover arctic regions) holds a vast amount of the world’s fresh water,  while salt water is found in the seas and oceans.

Think about:

  • How would polar bears and penguins live?
  • How could you make a cool drink without ice?
  • What would happen to all the snow in winter?
  • What would happen to the sea levels?

We are looking forward to this discussion.

Monday 23rd March , by Mr Tarry

Date: 23rd Mar 2020 @ 9:23am

Good morning Year 4,

It is very strange not seeing you all this morning, but we know you will all be staying safe and working hard at home.

We are challenging ourselves to complete PE with Joe Wicks every day this week. He starts at 9am, but if you miss it, you can find it on his YouTube channel later on. You can also have a go at the fun activities on the PE passport that we posted last week. It is so important that you keep healthy and active!

Here is the link;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6r99N3kXME

Your first task today is to create a home learning timetable . Work with your adult at home tocreate a daily timetable from Monday-Friday. Think about chunking the day up with set times for the following:

1. Wake up time

2. Breakfast/get ready

3. School work

4. Exercise

5. Reading and adding to your reading record (2 separate 30 minute slots)

6. Creative activties such as drawing

7. Diary writing to reflect on the day

8. Helping with chores at home

9. Don't forget break times too!

Record your timetable in your red exercise book. Today's date Monday 23rd March and title Home Learning Timetable. Try to organise a work space too (a table is best if you can).

Enjoy your day! We will be thinking about you.

PE Home Learning - The PE Passport, by Mr Tarry

Date: 20th Mar 2020 @ 12:00pm

During the time school is closed, PE Passport have put together a selection of videos, ideas and activities that, if you are looking for something to do, will hopefully give you some different ways to stay active.

The content is designed to provide fun and engaging challenges to be attempted at home and as families. They have added Dance, Yoga, Hand/Eye Coordination skills and Personal Challenges. PE Passport will be updating the content daily over the next week and we hope the resources available will help your school community stay active during the closure. They have also provided external links to other websites that might prove useful to parents and carers whilst at home.
