Geography
Purpose
At Moss Park Primary School, we provide a high-quality geography education that covers sufficient breadth and depth to inspire a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people. Through our curriculum design, we revisit and build on prior knowledge and learning carefully; this allows children to develop their understanding of the world around them, build an identity and develop a sense of place. Working with our local community and supporting local initiatives, our children leave Moss Park Primary School as conscientious citizens.
Aims
To develop pupils' contextual knowledge of the location of globally significant places including their defining physical and human characteristics and how these provide a geographical context for understanding the actions of processes.
To understand the processes that give rise to key physical & human geographical features of the world, how these are interdependent and how they bring about variation and change over time.
To ensure pupils are competent in the geographical skills needed to collect, analyse and communicate with a range of data gathered through experiences of fieldwork. They will be able to interpret a range of sources of geographical information, including maps, diagrams, photographs and Geographical Information Systems (GIS).
