Pupil Premium Strategy

The pupil premium grant is a grant given by the government to schools in England to decrease the attainment gap for the most disadvantaged children, whether by income or by family upheaval. The DFE defines 'disadvantaged' as:

  • they are known to have been eligible for free school meals in the past 6 years, or

  • they are recorded as having been looked after for at least one day, or

  • they are recorded as having been adopted from care

For each pupil who is eligible for free school meals or has claimed free school meals in the last six years, their school receives £1,455 (if a primary school).

Schools receive an extra premium of £2,530 for pupils:

  • in local authority care

  • adopted from care (and the parent self-declares)

  • were in care in the last year, which ceased by virtue of a special guardianship order (and the guardian self-declares), residence order or Child Arrangement Order.

Service children also receive an allocation of £335, if a parent is serving in the armed forces or is in receipt of a service pension.

OUR OBJECTIVES

  • The Pupil Premium will be used to provide additional educational support to improve the progress and to raise the standard of achievement for these pupils

  • The funding will be used to narrow and close the gap between the achievement of these pupils and their peers

  • As far as its powers allow the school will use the additional funding to address any underlying inequalities between children eligible for Pupils Premium and others

  • We will ensure that the additional funding reaches the pupils who need it most and that it makes a significant impact on their education and lives.

  • The gap between disadvantaged pupils and others will be closed.

OUR STRATEGIES

  • Pupil Premium expenditure will be clearly identifiable within the budget

  • The Headteacher, in consultation with the governors and staff, will decide how the Pupil Premium is spent for the benefit of entitled pupils

  • The school will assess what additional provision should be made for pupils

  • The school will be accountable for how it has used the additional funding to support the achievement of those pupils covered by the Pupil Premium and the Headteacher will report to the governing body and parents on how effective the intervention has been in achieving its aims

  • The governing body will hold the school to account for the effective use of the funding and for its impact on pupils progress and standards

  • The governing body will appoint a governor as the pupil premium ‘champion’ to regularly liaise with the Headteacher about the use and impact of the premium.

  • We will monitor the attendance of pupil premium children to ensure that they benefit from continuous learning and good attendance

  • We will publish online information about how we have used the Premium and what its impact has been.

  • We will ensure that parents, governors and others are made fully aware of the attainment of pupils covered by the Premium.

  • We will seek to further develop strategies and interventions which can improve the progress and attainment of these pupils

We will track the impact of the strategies put into place to ensure that we can show the value that has been added to the education of the entitled children.

  • We will monitor evaluate and review the success of the impact of the pupil premium funding to see that it is 'narrowing the gap'
