History

Our Vision

At Moss Park, we believe that history is a window into understanding the world, inspiring a deeper appreciation of how past events shape our lives today. Through our carefully sequenced history curriculum and exciting enrichment activities, we bring history to life for our pupils, helping them develop a sense of identity and a respect for the achievements of people across time and place.

We celebrate history with creativity and enthusiasm, from History-themed musical assemblies in Key Stage 2 to engaging lessons that explore local, national, and global histories. By connecting the past to British Values such as democracy, liberty, and the rule of law, pupils gain a deeper understanding of their place in the world and the importance of respecting diverse achievements and ideas.

Our Aims

  • Gain a coherent overview of time, place, people, and events in world history.

  • Understand how their lives today in Britain are shaped by ideas, people, and events from the past.

  • Explore a breadth of historical periods and figures to develop a broad understanding of world history.

  • Use historical evidence to critically investigate and interpret the past, igniting curiosity and inquiry.

  • Build a chronological framework for learning about life in different eras and contexts.

  • Develop skills as historians, including researching, analysing evidence, and using the language of history effectively.

Implementation

Our history curriculum is designed to provide pupils with a broad and coherent understanding of the past. By studying local, national, and global histories, pupils develop an appreciation for diverse perspectives and cultures, fostering respect for the achievements of people worldwide.

Lessons are sequenced to build pupils' historical knowledge and skills progressively, with opportunities to:

  • Investigate historical evidence and critically evaluate its reliability and significance.

  • Develop a secure understanding of chronology and how different time periods relate to one another.

  • Engage in meaningful discussions and debates about key historical events, figures, and civilizations.

  • Explore British Values through the lens of history, connecting past struggles and triumphs to the freedoms and principles we value today.
