Y6 - War Memorials, by Mrs Toft

For part of their History topic about the world wars, Year 6 walked to St Matthew’s Church to explore the war memorials outside and inside the building. They recorded names and key dates of fallen soldiers from both wars and further researched the impact that World War I and World War II had on our local area.

Year 1: R.E - Challah bread, by Mrs GIlmour

In R.E the children have been learning about the festival of Shabbat which is a day of rest in Judaism. Challah is a special type of plaited bread that is eaten during the festival of Shabbat. The children learnt how to plait the bread, cooked it and ate what they created.

In History, we have been learning about seaside holidays in the 1950s.

For our final lesson, the big finish was to make a reconstruction of a beach in the past.

This half term in English, Y2 have been learning about explanation texts. 

In Science, we have been learning about plants.

So for our hot writes today, we paired the two together to create these beautiful pieces of writing, full of facts about plants!

This week Year 1 have been learning about common garden plants. They learnt that garden plants are planted on purpose and can be used to look pretty such as a pansy or used for food such as rosemary. We went for a walk around our local park and area spotting the garden plants on the way. We did observational drawings and found out the name of new plants.

Today, we went outdoors with the chalk to create visual representations of the fractions we have learnt.

This half term Year 6 are exploring a range of African Art. Today they made their own TingaTinga art pieces inspired by Edward TingaTinga.

Year 1 visit to Stretford Library, by Mrs GIlmour

This week the children visited Stretford Library. They walked their and back and passers by commented on their exceptional behaviour along the journey. When we went inside the library the children had a guided tour of the children's area of the library and the different sections they could choose a book from. They then had a tour of the adult library as well. They were then given the task of being book detectives and finding different books on their sheet such as 'find a book in a different language'. They had lots of fun and were then able to choose one book to borrow from the library as well.

Year 1- Julia Donaldson Exhibition, by Mrs GIlmour

In the Autumn term, year 1 went to the Lowry Theatre to visit the Julia Donaldson exhibition. We had been reading the story Stick Man and it was amazing to see Julia Donaldson's real draft books and ideas for how she created these stories. There was lots of interactive games, a reading area and a role play area, the classes had so much fun! We travelled by the tram to Salford which was another exciting (and tiring) part of the day too!

Y2 - Souvenir Gallery, by Miss Khan

In History, we have been comparing holidays from the 1950s to our modern day holidays.

Today, we were looking at what photos and souvenirs can tell us about a holiday.

Thank you so much to everyone that printed photos and brought souvenirs in! We loved learning about each other's holidays and sharing our stories.

Today it was the 'Great Science Share Day'!

Our investigation was all about spinning - we aimed to answer "what type of footwear helps to create the best spin?"

Thank you to everyone that managed to bring in some socks for the children to use for this investigation - we really enjoyed it :-)

Year 4 worked hard to create 3D purses out of felt. We stitches the pieces of felt together using a variety of stitches.

Year 4 have really enjoyed their active session with Freddy Fit! They learnt lots of intresting facts about our bodies and how to keep healthy.

Today, we celebrated Eid with some crafting, party food, dancing and colouring.

Many of us also got our henna done which was very exciting!

We have loved our party day! Thank you so much to everyone for bringing party food in and helping make our day extra special :-)

This half term, our Science topic is "Young Gardeners".

Today, we recapped the parts of a plant. We then learnt about the process of germination

We planted our own bulbs and are excited to see what these turn into! 

Y2 - Textiles, by Miss Khan

Today, we designed, made and evaluated our stuffed animals to complete our DT topic on Textiles!

Each of us designed either a monster or an owl teddy. We then threaded the needles, stuffed, sewed and decorated our animals.

Y2 - Zoolab, by Miss Khan

Today, we had the pleasure of having Zoolab in school to show us some animals!

This was for our Science topic. The Zoolab leader spoke to us about prey, predators and food chains.

We loved holding the animals and sharing our ideas.

Y2 - World Book Day, by Miss Khan

Today it is World Book Day - the perfect day for a class full of budding readers! 

We started the day with a wordsearch, followed by an assembly where we got to parade our costumes around.

Next, we designed our own book covers for a story of our own, and created our own bookmarks to take home!

We read one of our favourite Julia Donaldson books, 'The Smeds and the The Smoos' and took a trip to our school library for some relaxing reading. 

We have had the best day and everyone looked amazing! Thank you for all your efforts with costumes :-)

Y2 - Watercolour paints, by Miss Khan

Today, we had a lovely, calming afternoon using our brand new watercolour paints to create our own artwork, inspired by a journey.

We then used felt tips to add symbols on, to mirror the aboriginal art we have been learning about.

We loved it :-)
